. muddy buddies .

One of our favorite treats of all time, requires ingredients we always have on hand, is gluten-free, and gets everyone in on the action:
muddy buddies!
Just saying the words brings children running to the kitchen, ready and willing to help.

You must try them.  Here’s what to do:

Let the kiddos measure out the chocolate chips, butter and peanut butter.
Dump them all in a big bowl.
Let the kiddos take turns stirring until melted and combined.

Have kiddos measure cereal.
Have kiddos dump cereal in (we usually have to take turns measuring and dumping so it is all fair).
Mix, mix, mix.  When your arm gets tired have Mom take over.

Now the fun part.
Add powdered sugar.
And shake, shake, shake……try not to make too big of a mess :-)!

Enjoy and try to stop eating!

The official recipe {as you can see, we don’t follow it to the T}

9 c. Chex cereals (corn or rice)
1 c. semi sweet chocolate chips
1/2 c. peanut butter
1/4 c. butter
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
Pour cereal into large bowl and set aside. Combine chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter in 1 quart microwavable bowl. Microwave on high for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until smooth (stir after 1 minute). Stir in vanilla. Pour chocolate mixture over cereal and stir until all pieces are evenly coated.

Pour cereal mixture into large container (with seal) with powdered sugar. Seal securely. Shake until all pieces are well coated. Spread on wax paper to cool. Store in an airtight container. Makes 9 cups.

{Oh, and as if they weren’t good just the way they are —- try them frozen!  AWESOME!}
